To the west of the city of Lod, on land that was transferred from Moshav Nir Zvi, the International Quarter plan is being promoted. This is the largest plan being executed under the umbrella agreement. The International Quarter neighborhood is to be built on an area of approximately 160 hectare (1,600 dunams) and includes a diverse residential mix with approximately 11,350 new housing units, as well as public buildings to serve the population of the area, and structures that will meet additional needs of the city, such as urban squares with commercial space, employment and residential areas, open spaces and the expansion of the existing railway station.
In addition to the thousands of housing units, the Quarter will include 154,000 square meters of employment space, 48,000 square meters of commercial space, open public spaces in the center of the neighborhood and adjacent to the Ganei Aviv neighborhood. There will be a large eucalyptus park, public squares and public buildings in accordance with the needs of the city, as well as paths for pedestrians and bicycles. The geographic location of the International District makes it a central part of the urban transportation fabric. The proximity to the Ganei Aviv railway station, which is a 12-minute train ride, to and from Tel Aviv, and the availability of public transportation on Route 200 will benefit the local population as a convenient connection to the metropolis, that does not rely on the use of a private car. The International Quarter is a flagship neighborhood, and it is expected to become one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the area. The proximity to the train station, the broad environmental development and the adjacency to Nir Zvi to the west will make it even more attractive.
